Shiner White Wing

A beer for their 104th year, this 4.7% ABV Belgian-style white beer is from the Spoetzel Brewery in Shiner, Texas, maker of Shiner beers. As is traditional, it is brewed with coriander and orange peel, along with Belgian yeast, barley and wheat malts, and Saaz hops.

The beer pours golden yellow in color. There is a tall, tightly fizzy head of pure white foam, an element of creaminess, to it, meringue-like. The aroma is wheat, spices, orange; tangy, fruity light yeast; chalky, but in a good way, a pleasant mineral quality perhaps as the way to say it.  The taste follows all the notes of the aromas, perfectly melded and blended together, exquisitely balanced. It drinks smooth, light to medium body, well-carbonated, with a smooth and refreshing soft fizziness. This exceeded my expectations, it is really nicely done. If you like the style, put it on your must try list.
