Madhouse Iowa Hops IPA 2013

This 8.0% ABV beer is from the Madhouse Brewing Company of Newton, Iowa. It uses Centennial and Cascade hops which were all grown in the State of Iowa. I did review the 2012 release as well.

The beer pours a deep amber bronze in glowing, gem-like color. There is a tall head of fairly thick foam, dark off-white to very light tan in color. The aroma is of lemon iced tea, with passion fruit, with some light notes most closely resembling pine. The taste follows the aromas quite directly, with a spicy, prickly bitterness of medium, approaching strong, intensity. It is medium bodied, smooth and round, with a moderate carbonation. I thought the 2012 was superior, but interesting variation this year.
