Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout

This 8.0% ABV beer is from Alltech's Lexington Brewing Company of Lexington, Kentucky. It is brewed with coffee and then aged in oak bourbon barrels along with Haitian coffee. The beer pours as black as the depths of a Kentucky coal mine. There is a thin and short lived head that is light brown in color. The aroma is very dark roasted malt, flavorful char, coffee, and lots of it. The taste follows the aromas directly. Where is the bourbon here? This is a nice coffee stout flavor wise, but it is too watery, and the bourbon is nowhere to be found really. There is light vanilla and bourbon in the aftertaste, but when I say the bourbon in the aftertaste is light, I mean like less than a feather. Great potential here, but not fully realized.

2019: Tasting better - The beer pours black. There is a short head of tan foam. The aroma is mild, but definite bourbon, sweetness, and dark roasted malts, some char. The taste follows the aromas, dark roasted malts, char, dark chocolate, some sweetness, including from the bourbon, a touch of wood. The finish is semi-dry and moderately bitter. The beer drinks smooth, but barely enough body to hold up the flavors. This tastes great, but is a bit thin for the style. Small change to label art, the outline of Kentucky has become a horse's head.
