Boulevard Coffee Ale

The Boulevard Brewing Company is in Kansas City, Missouri. One of their neighbors is The Roasterie, and these neighbors collaborated on this 9.3% ABV beer that is part of Boulevard's Smokestack Series. This beer uses Ethiopian Sidamo coffee that has been air roasted. This coffee is blended into an ale made with rye, oats, malted barley, and Perle and Styrian Golding hops.

The beer pours a very dark brown and ruby in color, black from a distance. There is a tall head of thick and creamy light brown cappuccino foam. The aroma is the most wonderful roasted coffee, dark, crisp, acidic, airy, delightful. The taste has all the coffee notes of the aroma, with straight, pure coffee flavor, touch of mocha, tart, acidic, sweet notes in there too, with a clean, lightly bitter finish. It is quite carbonated, fine and tingly. It is smooth and round and full in the mouth, but never heavy in the slightest. This is the most coffee ever in a coffee ale. There is a LOT going on here, give it a try.
