Widmer Brothers Columbia Common

Widmer Brothers is from Portland, Oregon. This beer uses the Columbia hop (which their website says was nearly extinct) and is 4.7% ABV. The beer pours clear and a dark chestnut color, kind of like the color of very dark cream soda. There is a very short and thin off-white head. The aroma is grassy, tangy, light strawberry fruit, and a bit spicy. The taste is toasted and lightly roasted malty, grassy, light fruit, with a finish that is nutty, tangy and fairly bitter all at once. It tastes a lot like some of the Newcastle special releases.
