Zatecky Gus Lager

Zatecky Gus is brewed by the Baltika Breweries of St. Petersburg, Russia.

The crest on the bottle has a goose in it, perhaps giving a clue to the pronunciation of the name. The beer is 4.6% ABV and pours a very golden yellow in color, well-carbonated, with a half inch of pure white foamy head. The aroma is golden grains, a touch of straw, and some herbal and grassy notes. The taste follows the aromas quite directly. It is slightly sweet, but there is enough hops on the end to cut the sweetness, it does not have any bitterness to the finish. It is amply carbonated, but not overly so, and the head adds a nice creamy element. This is a decent, drinkable lager, but not a standout in any way.
