This beer pours an extremely dark brown, nearing black, opaque. There is a quarter inch of light brown creamy, foamy head. The aroma is dark roasted malts, a bit of coffee and a tart note on the end. The taste is sweet, dark roasted malt, with a tangy note on the finish. The aftertaste is rich coffee. The finish is dry and nutty, slightly bitter. They list this as a brown ale, but it is very close to a stout or porter.
