Bear Republic Brewing Company Tribute Ale

This 6.3% ABV brown ale is made as a tribute to Peter Brown (1949-2002), a former sales manager for the brewery.  Bear Republic is in the beautiful city of Healdsburg, Sonoma County, California.

The beer pours dark brown and opaque, with just a hint of ruby translucency around the edges if held up to the light.  There is a quarter inch of off white head.  The aroma is dark roasted malt, both sweet and with a coffee-like bitterness.  The taste is slightly sweet, slightly tart, very dark roasted malt, bits of coffee and dark chocolate.  This is a nicely balanced brown ale, so dark roasted that it approaches a porter.
