Zipfer is brewed by Brau Union Osterrich in Linz, Austria.

This 5.4% ABV beer pours a dark honey golden and well carbonated but with only a quarter inch of rapidly dissipating head that does leave light lacing down the glass.  The aroma is straw, fall grain, slightly grassy and floral, with a medium lager "funk".  The taste is strong, grain, straw, lager funk, with a bitter finish.  The carbonation provides a bit of bite on the tongue and sting on the back of the throat, in a refreshing way.  This is a nice German style lager.

Remember when Michelob came in bottles this shape in the 1980's?  The bottle indicates Zipfer has been around since 1858, wonder if Michelob took their idea from Zipfer?
