Redhook Mud Slinger Spring Nut Brown Ale

This 5.8% ABV spring seasonal is from the Redhook Brewery, Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

The beer pours a dark translucent brown with a bit of ruby.  There is little head.  The aroma is of fresh, slightly roasted malt with both sweetness and tartness.  The taste is malty, a bit roasted, a bit of caramel, a bit of hazelnut with a mildly bitter finish.  This is a subtle but very pleasant and drinkable nut brown ale.

Nut Brown - Here is the 2012 spring seasonal nut brown ale from Redhook, but they seem to have dropped the whole mud slinger bit and just called it what it is.  Let's see if it seems any different.  Still 5.8% ABV, the beer pours medium brown in color, touch of ruby and a touch of orange.  There is a short head of light brown, thin foam.  The aroma is roasted malt, nutty, some caramel, a touch of toffee.  The taste is roasted, very nutty malt, with that touch of caramel and toffee, but not at all sweet, with a dry and lightly bitter finish.  This is a really nice nut brown ale.
