Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout

This stout is from the Samuel Smith Old Brewery Tadcaster in Yorkshire, England. It is fermented in old open stone squares.

The beer pours black with a half-inch head of light tan foam. The aroma is dark roasted and tangy, with a smokey char and a fruity bite. The taste is a balanced, delicious, harmonious blend of dark roasted char, chocolate, and tangy fruit. There is sweetness in the taste, with the finish being semi-dry and tangy, with a mild to moderate bitterness. The beer drinks easy, but with enough body for its flavors, and finishes with a biting, but not overpowering, carbonation.
