Grain Belt Blu

Grain Belt makes "The Friendly Beer."  Now brewed by the August Schell Brewing Company of New Ulm, Minnesota, it was originally brewed starting in 1893 by the Minneapolis Brewing Company.  In the 1960's it became Grain Belt Breweries and was sold in 1976 to G. Heileman.  In the 1980's Grain Belt was taken over by Minnesota Brewing Company who brewed it until 2002 when Schell's took over. This is their blueberry lager.

The beer pours a dark purple with dark red tints. There is an inch of light purple foaming head. The aroma is blueberry over sweet grain, like a breakfast cereal, bar, or muffin. The taste is juicy, a nice blend of sweet and tart blueberry and grape juice, and semi-sweet grain. The beer drinks with a good balance in its body, with just the right weight to hold up its flavor, but not a bit more. This is a very tasty and enjoyable beer.
