The Hobbit: Smaug Stout

This 8.5% ABV stout is part of the line of beers inspired by the Hobbit and made by Fish Tale Ales, the Fish Brewing Company, of Olympia, Washington. It also has 65 IBU's. If you have not read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, you are really missing out (and the movies aren't too bad either).

The beer pours black in color. There is an inch of light brown head, thick and foamy. The aroma is sweet, milky, dark roasted, dark chocolate, some char and a bit of a mineral tang. The taste follows the same notes as the aromas, and ups the char. The beer drinks round and smooth, with a moderate bitterness on the finish. This is a well-flavored and very drinkable stout. This is the best of the three Hobbit beers.
