Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

This is the classic original from 1980 and the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company of Chico, California (now also in Mills River, North Carolina). It uses whole cone Cascade hops and is 5.6% ABV.

The beer pours copper and amber, orange-tinted, in color. There is a relatively short head of off-white foam, not long lasting. The aroma is fresh, fruity, orange, lightly floral, over caramel and biscuit malt. The taste is plums and light citrus over caramel malt, with a sudden, dry and decidedly bitter finish that has light pine in it. The beer is medium bodied, with a soft, yet very crisp carbonation. A quintessential pale ale.
