Sierra Nevada Coffee Stout

This 6.2% ABV stout is from the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company of Chico, California and Mills River, North Carolina. It is part of their winter sampler pack the Snowpack. It uses cold brewed coffee.

The beer pours coal black, just the faintest lightening around the edges if held to a light. There is a relatively short head of beige foam. The aroma is coffee, both from the dark roasted malts and the actual coffee, melding together nicely. There is also some dark roasted char and a bit of dark chocolate. There is a whiff of sweetness in the back, along with a mineral tang. The taste hits all the same notes as the aromas, loads of coffee and dark roasted malt coffee and char. They blend together well in the taste and the beer is not overwhelmed by the actual coffee. There is a coffee-like bitterness in the finish. The beer drinks smooth and round with a subtle tingle of carbonation.
