Stillwater Folklore

This is a 8.4% dark malted ale made with Beglian yeast and lightly smoked. It is from Stillwater Artisanal Ales with this bottled brewed at Dog Brewing in Westminster, Maryland.

The beer pours as black as charcoal, even when held to the light. There is over an inch of light brown head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, char, a bit of smoke, with a tangy, metallic note. The taste is dark roasted malt, char, hint of smoke, whiff of coffee, a bit of tangy yeast, with an underlying dark fruitiness. It drinks smooth and round. There is a not unpleasant metallic tang and a moderate bitterness on the finish. It is dry, the alcohol is not noticeable in the taste, but leaves a warming effect in the aftertaste. This is quite well done.
