Summit Frost Line Rye

The Summit Brewing Company is in Saint Paul, Minnesota and they have been brewing since 1986, definitely making them a grand daddy of the craft beer movement. While they don't really do any "whales", they are solid across all styles and make really drinkable beers. I think of them as the Sierra Nevada of the Midwest. This 5.8% ABV beer is their newest seasonal release.

The beer pours a dark brown/amber/copper/burnt orange in color. There is an inch of thickly foamy head, light tan. The aroma is fruity, bready, tangy, spicy, oranges, pine and old-fashioned bubble gum (think Double Bubble). The taste follows the aromas with the rye really coming through, add in the fruit and it is like rye toast with marmalade. It is rich and smooth, yet easy drinking. The carbonation has a refreshing sting and it is somewhat bitter on the finish. Another solid Summit product, tasty, balanced, easy to drink.
