Harpoon Leviathan Imperial IPA

This "Leviathan" is a whopping 10% ABV and is from the Harpoon Brewery of Boston, Massachusetts. The beer pours a clear and pure copper in color. There is a short head of white to off-white foam.  The aroma is hop forward, loads of very ripe tropical fruit and orange, some pine, with the alcohol up front and evident, over a solid bed of caramel malt. The taste is fruity and luscious hops, again lots of tropical and orange. It drinks full, but not heavy, alcohol again apparent. The massive hop fruitiness is held steady by a strong foundation of malt, which holds up, but never intrudes. The finish is moderately to strongly bitter, tangy, with a grapefruit note and a piney astringency. There is also a spiciness at the finish. Full, flavorful, round, and delicious.
