Baraboo Lumberjack IPA

Baraboo Beers are a proprietary brand of the Hy-Vee chain of Midwestern supermarkets.  The beers are contract brewed by Stevens Point Brewery in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

The beer pours a deep glowing copper in color.  There is a half-inch of thick, creamy, off-white head. The aroma is full of orange, creamy, caramel malt, a hint of pine, cantaloupe and tea with lemon.  The taste follows the aromas quite directly, predominantly orange, then malt, followed by the other lighter flavors.  It has a distinctly bitter finish.  The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, with a light dryness on the end from the bittering hops.

While this is no Pliny the Elder, it is distinctly better than most proprietary IPA's.  It is worth trying and, most importantly, would be worth repeating.  There seems to be a growing number of American IPA's recently  that follow this style, the fruit being predominantly orange, with a hefty dose of malt, and a creamy mouthfeel (as opposed to the super grapefruit, tropical fruit, pine IPA's).
